What is a Wifi thermostat and how can it help your home?
In this week’s Healthy Home Report, Jeff Lee, our heating and cooling expert discussed wifi thermostats. So what is a wifi thermostat? A Wifi or wireless thermostat is a device that regulates temperature in your home. More advanced wifi thermostats contain sensors which help control the heating and cooling systems inside your home.
Basic thermostats and even programmable thermostats are wonderful assets to aid in home comfort levels. Unfortunately, these types of thermostats are limited in what they can do. A Wifi thermostat can be controlled from your smartphone. It will come with a partnered app where you can control your temperature from virtually anywhere. You can use this technology to your advantage.
With this technology, you can control the temperature of your home from anywhere. For example, if you’re going on vacation and you forget to turn the heat down before you leave, you can just use your thermostat’s smartphone app and turn down the heat at your convenience. What’s even better about a wifi thermostat is that you can then turn the heat back up before you return from your vacation! It’s all controlled from your phone and whenever it is easiest for you. Your home can be the perfect temperature and comfortable at any time no matter where you are!
A wifi thermostat can also help save you money. In recent studies, it’s estimated that using a wifi thermostat can save you between 10-15 percent on your heating and cooling bills. The average annual savings are over $140.
